BE EVER GRATEFUL

BE EVER GRATEFUL

MAIN TEXT: 1 Thess. 5:18

“In everything, give thanks in all circumstances for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus”

Psalm 30:12 – To the end that my glory may sing praise to you, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever.

Having a grateful and thankful heart is very important in both the secular and religious world. We should be thankful always expressing our gratitude to God and people who He uses to help/bless us. We should also be grateful for small as well as big things. An Igbo proverb has it that when we thank the woman
who gives us the “akede” porridge, she is encouraged to give more. When we voice our thanks we remind ourselves afresh of how blessed we are.

I encourage you to take some time everyday and choose to think of all the things and people God have blessed you with and voice your thankfulness to Him. This is “counting our blessing” and when we name them one by one, it will surprise us what the Lord had done” according to a popular Christian hymn. Also form a habit of expressing gratitude to those who help you and make your life better. This way you are fulfilling the will of God.

Most of us believers find it hard to be consistently thankful for the common place blessings that make life pleasant and comfortable – unfailing supply of our daily needs, the provision of food and shelter, the companionship of friends and families etc. At times we even forget the wonderful mercies of Gods redeeming grace. We have many reasons to rejoice and be grateful and we should not allow it fluctuate with our circumstances.

Prayer: Merciful father, may we be always grateful for your loving kindness and tender mercies Amen.
