GOD DOES NOT ABANDON HIS OWN
MAIN TEXT: ISAIAH 41:10- I am with you, I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Deuteronomy 3:6- Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Protection comes in many forms – a rabbit dives to his hole, a deer to its dense cover of the swamp, while a child runs into the bosom of the father or mother when threatened. But how is the Christian protected? Where does he hide when surrounded by danger. David knew the answer hence he said in Psalms.46:1 that God is his rock of refuge and a fortress of defence. He relied on the divine protection of the almighty God who has promised to be with believers through thick or thin.
As children of God, divine protection is available to us as we put our faith in His mighty defence doing His will. We can move ahead with confidence eager to fight the foe. Even when the battle seems too great and hot, we must stay in the assurance of God not to abandon us. We can encourage ourselves by thinking of Elisha’s message that “those with us are more than those with them – our enemies (2 kings 6:16). The promise of Gods omnipresence comforts and encourages the believer.
No wonder Thomas Chalmers, a Scottish preacher wrote –“When I walk by the wayside, God is along with me. When I enter into company amid all forgetfulness, of Him. He never forsakes me. In the silent watches of the night, when my eyelids are close and my spirit has sunk into unconsciousness, the observant eye of Him who never slumbers is upon me. I cannot flee His presence, go where I will. He leads me and watches me and cares for me”. We can rest in the assurance, that the unseen God is always near.
Wherever we go, He walks with us to lead us, assist us, comfort us and bless us. Psalm 91 speaks of the Lord as a “secret place”, “a shadow” (suggesting nearness) “a refuge”, “a fortress”, a protection and a deliverer. We are always safe in Him. Whether our danger comes from the threat of war, disease, family or satanic attack, God is our fortress and He will not abandon us.
