WORSHIP IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH

MAIN TEXT: JOHN 4:23 – But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for such doth the Father seek to be his worshippers.

Romans 12:1 – I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service.

As believers, we are called to worship God in spirit and in truth. The first step in understanding how to worship is recognizing whom to worship. He is a Spirit and those who worship Him must do in spirit and truth. To worship God demands that it must originate from the heart, with sincerity, motivated by our love for God and gratitude for all He is and has done for us.

Worship cannot be mechanical, although we can observe certain liturgy but it does demand that all physical postures must be infused with heartfelt commitment, faith, love and zeal. True worship must engage the totality of our being but any feeling that is stirred up by false doctrine is worthless. Such false doctrines produce dead orthodoxy. We should realize that man’s way of reasoning is different from God’s way – Isaiah 55:8, it takes a mind renewed by God’s word to render quality worship to God continuously.

The message and truth about Jesus Christ must be our focus. “Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom He gives” – Colossians 3:16. Our focus must be centered on Christ. And worship can also be done through our lifestyle. Rendering a good song to God without living the true life of Christ is not a true worship.

TRUE WORSHIP COMES FROM THOSE WHO DEEPLY LOVE GOD

PRAYER: God, give me the right spirit to worship and serve you better in Jesus name.
