DON’T DESPISE ANYONE

DON’T DESPISE ANYONE
MAIN TEXT: II KING 5: 3-4- And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy. And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.
1 SAMUEL 17:42- And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.

Every man created by God has very unique gifting and potentials. We all have our places and roles in life and no man’s role is more important. No man is an Island as we need each other to survive. In our text, Naaman, a captain of the host of the king of Syria, suffered leprosy for many years, even though the Lord had given deliverance unto Syria through him.

By virtue of his position he must have sought for physicians to cure him but to no avail. But through a little mere maid who was brought from captivity out of the land of Israel, the Lord brought healing to him. Naaman’s wife did not look down on the slave girl but was sensitive enough to listen to her advice that Naaman should see the prophet (Elisha). This humility that Naaman’s wife showed and Naaman’s obedience to the prophet’s instruction, made a remarkable difference in his life as he was healed of his leprosy. If Naaman’s wife had despised the poor maid and not paid attention to her, she would have continued to fast and pray for her husband’s healing not knowing that God had already answered her a long time and that the answered was with her maid.

God works in mysterious ways and it could be that the answer to that your age long prayer lies with that your office cleaner, your driver, your house maid, your chef, your gate man, or that illiterate who you despise daily. The greatness, gifts, potentials and talents that God puts in a man is not based on a man’s size, or shape. It is not determined by colour, race, background, tribe, nativity or language. They are gifts that lie within, which God alone gives by different measures to every man as He wills. So don’t look down on people based on their background, race or colour.

Finally, instead of comparing and looking down on people, begin to impact their lives. You may not know how great and useful that little or poor person around you could be you until you begin to add value to him.
