GROW IN GIVING
MAIN TEXT: Matthew 6:2 – When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, they have received their reward.
Proverbs 11:25 – The liberal soul shall be made fat; And he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
Let us carefully examine this scripture, ‘A generous person will prosper, whoever refreshes others will be refreshed’ – Proverbs 11:25. Is it not amazing that persons of the same qualifications and probably mates prosper in different measures? Ten lepers were cleansed and healed by Jesus Christ but just one of them returned to give thanks. Regardless of his status – ‘a stranger and sinner’, Jesus recognized him and commanded all round healing to his life. Indeed there is great power and benefits of giving.
God wants us to grow in giving. He wants us to receive a complete reward of our giving if we do not indulge in hypocritical giving. There is the giving that attracts earthly reward and a giving that brings God to reward the giver. As Christians, we should not show arrogance and pride in giving. Even in the church, there are those who will never give unless there is public giving that the congregation will see and there are others who need the applause of men and they announce their giving on the TV and social media platforms with the motive of displaying pride – God does not recognize any giving attached with arrogance.
IT IS MORE BLESSED TO PROPERLY GIVE THAN TO PROPERLY RECEIVE
PRAYER – Grant me the right heart to giving and the grace to give in lack in Jesus’ name.
