THE FEAR OF THE LORD
MAIN TEXT: PROVERBS 3:7
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
Job 28:28- And unto man he said, Behold the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
The fear of the Lord is rarely seen in the attitude of so many people today and it is not the best for us. So many people take the fear of the Lord to be foolishness. The scripture made it clear that we should fear God and turn away from evil. It is the fear of the Lord- which is to honour God that will cause us to turn away from evil and sin. Evil seems to be on the rising just because a lot of people do not fear the Lord. It is a fact that we are free moral beings but whenever we work with our ways without reference to God and considering his feelings towards our actions then it is foolishness but if we put God first in our decisions, mind and communications then we are wise.
If we honour God; we receive from Him too. The fear of the Lord should be seen in our service to God and to his people. Do not be so friendly with God that you lose your fear or reverence to God. There is this fear that comes up in the life of the new born believer, watch it whenever you stop feeling that fear for God in your spirit, lest you fall away. Watch how you speak about spiritual matters too, it can be destructive.
