DON’T LOOK BACK

DON’T LOOK BACK

Main text: Luke 9:62 – Jesus replied, ‘No one who puts his hand to the plough and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God’

‘Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame and sat down at the right hand of God’ – Heb. 12:2

Our heavenly father seeks for people who believe but those who are ready and willing to believe and also follow him every step of the way until they get to heaven. With God, it is forward ever and backward never. Whatever is in the past belongs to the past. God does not need to consult the past of your life before He will touch your life. God calls you and He expects you to make a radical commitment to Him by following Him whole heartedly.  Looking back suggests backsliding, which indicates that there is an alternative to God. What have you forsaken for Christ? Leave them where you forsook them. When you think about your ‘loss’ as a Christian, it means that you regret being a child of God. Jesus said when you put your hand to the plough and look back; you are not fit for service in His kingdom. That is, you are a double-minded person and cannot be trusted with the matters of the kingdom and therefore disqualified. There is nothing you forsook for Christ in the past that equals the blessing in your future if you remain steadfast in faith.

Trusting Jesus will get you into heaven but nothing less than following Him daily will make you useful in His kingdom. When you look back and crave the delicacies of this earthly kings’ portion which pollutes, it pulls you away from the right path and eventually destroys the individual. God is faithful and will not forsake you even in harsh economic situation in the world. Remember Lot’s wife becoming a pillar of salt in the extermination of Sodom and Gomorrah? It is the consequence of looking back. You may have been disappointed, betrayed and there is no commensurate reward yet? WAIT! Those are challenging and faith testing circumstances. DON’T LOOK BACK – Lift your eyes and focus on the Lord Jesus for He is the author and finisher of your faith.

LOOKING BACK IS AN ATTITUDE OF A COWARD, DON’T INDULGE IN IT

Prayer Point: Lord, grant me the grace to continually follow you wholeheartedly.
