BE TRUTHFUL
MAIN TEXT: PROVERBS 12:22 – Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.
COLOSSIANS 3:9 – Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds.
Jesus taught that our conversation should be so honest, and our character so true, that we would not need extra efforts to get people to believe us. Truthfulness is the hallmark of a Christian. In fact as we will see it is at the very heart of God Himself.
As followers of Christ, we aren’t honest because society tells us to be honest. Our society isn’t honest. And, worse, even rewards those who get away with dishonesty. It is evident in our government, our politicians, our judicial system, our businesses, our schools. The pervasive thought is if you can get away with it, more power to you. In other words, if you don’t get caught, then dishonesty is okay.
Cheating is useless altogether, for God sees through it. You may by great cleverness delude your fellow-men for a while, but you can never deceive God. As followers of Christ, we are honesty because we abide by a different standard and a different guide.
A LYING LIPS IS RULED BY A WICKED HEART
PRAYER: O Lord Jesus, deliver me from lying lips and make me to be a person of truth. Amen
