STAY HUMBLE

MAIN TEXT: DANIEL 4:30 …” Is not this great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power and for the honor of my majesty?

1 Peter 5:6 – Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you

Staying humble denotes having a low opinion of oneself, being meek and not proud nor arrogant. Humility is one of the dominant principles the Lord Jesus Christ taught in the Beatitudes to His disciples (Matthew 5:3-11). Jesus demonstrated humility in John 17:22 where He said that although He is one with His father, but does not claim equality with Him. Humility brings us closer to God and people. It contributes to fellowship where peace and graciousness prevail.

Pride is a destructive attitude that can disrupt the communion of believers and foster a discourteous attitude, causing division among brethren. Humility is a fruit of the Holy Spirit that should be the goal of every Christian, for God gives grace to the humble and resists the proud. It is a dangerous thing to be resisted and opposed by God. The person who is arrogant is at war with God because God opposes such character.

Service is always an opportunity to cultivate humility. Jesus Christ showed this when He washed the feet of the Apostles and instructed them to stay humble by doing the same to others. Seeing therefore that humility is essential for establishing the right relationship with God and humanity, let us stay humble to enjoy the grace and mercy of God that follow it. Can you wash the feet of another?

HUMILITY IS A KEY TO GREATNESS

PRAYER: God, please deal with the destructive character of pride in me. Give me grace for humility in Jesus name, AMEN.
