BACKWARD NEVER
MAIN TEXT: Luke 17:20-21 Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”
Luke 17:34—I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be taken and the other left.
These words of our Lord Jesus Christ are an admonition to His disciples about how they should react to the conditions that would be prevalent before His second coming. This warning still applies to us today as we see the end of the age approaching. Why did Lot’s wife look back? She probably had an inordinate love for the world and the material things she had in Sodom.
For His disciples, leaving family members behind to do God’s will, maybe the most common hardship that they have to face as they come out of the world. In the nearest future, we will be tested as Lot and his family were put to test. Shall we have faith to put those material pleasures in God’s hands and leave without hesitation?
Our entire life is at stake, we must always keep it as our priority. As Paul said, we must not count ourselves to have apprehended, but must forget those things that are behind and reach forward to those things which are ahead, and for the prize of the high call of God in Jesus Christ.
IS OUR DECISION TO SERVE GOD IN EVERY SEASON STRONG?
PRAYER: In Jesus name, O God, give me the special grace to continue serving you faithfully without looking backwards to the forbidden things. Amen
