ON GOD’S DIRECTION 1

MAIN TEXT- 2 Samuel 2:1 After this, David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah?” And the Lord said to him, “Go up.” David said, “To which shall I go up?” And he said, “To Hebron.

Psalm 90:12 – Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

If we must make it in the race to heaven, then hearing and following God’s direction is something we cannot do without. To hear from God, we must inquire of Him in the place of prayer. We must seek to know what He has to say about any matter before us because God will always have a say over everything that concerns us.

From our text, David, with all his experiences and knowledge of God, still inquired of Him to know if He were to go to Judah. God told Him yes, but that was not enough for him, he did not get up and begin to go to Judah, rather he further inquired from God to know the exact city He wanted him to go to. God then asked him to leave for Hebron. That is a typical example of inquiring and following a clear direction from God.

Following God’s direction requires patience, God does not tell us everything at a time. That’s truth because He wants us to absolutely depend on Him and keep inquiring from Him for our good. Inquiring and hearing from God is one thing, then obediently following God’s direction through His Spirit is another. God will not continue to speak to you when you do not obey the things He tells you to do.

OBEDIENCE HAS A BIG ROLE TO PLAY IN MAINTAINING GOD’S VOICE TO US

PRAYER: Jesus Christ, direct my thoughts and decisions. Lead me in every way I go. Amen
