THE WRONGS OF FINGER POINTING
MAIN TEXT: GENESIS 3:10-11 And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, and I hid myself.” He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you not to eat?”
Genesis 3:12—The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me the fruit of the tree, and I ate.”
Finger pointing can be put in this way, putting blame on other people instead of you, especially when things go wrong. It is a self-righteous attitude through which we try to exonerate ourselves from blame and involve others. When you practice self-righteousness, you make yourself a potential candidate for hell because it is an attribute of ungodliness.
Finger pointing makes one arrogant and the person has no room for change or correction. He sees himself to be above laws and authority, he finds it difficult to work with other colleagues. It breeds hatred and quarrel. It leads to misunderstanding, which in turn causes quarrel among brethren and God’s children must not quarrel (2 Timothy 2:23-24). God knows when we are wrong or right.
When things go wrong, and you are part of it, simply take the responsibility. Finger pointing made God angry towards Adam and Eve. God asked Adam, immediately he began to accuse God and Eve. We cannot deny and justify ourselves except God. Whether in the family or church or work place, we must not “play smart” in using finger pointing because it’s an act condemned by God.
FINGER POINTING IS TELLING LIES
PRAYER: O Lord, give me the courage to take responsibility for my shortcomings, forgive me of my past lifestyle and give me the spirit of righteousness in Jesus name, Amen.
