LUST WON’T RULE ME
MAIN TEXT: LUKE 12:15
“And He said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness; for man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth”.
Colossians 3:5- “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you; sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry”,
The word lust is where ones desire is taking to its extreme, in a sinful direction. In other word lust is called longing, envy, covetousness, yearning, hunger, thirst or hankering. The word rule can also be called decree, regulation or instruction.
A scriptural view of our topic is that there could be a level in a man’s life where what detects, directs, instructs and controls the motives, actions and behavioral demonstrations of a person could be borne out of wrong desires, borne out of intense uncontrollable and unmanageable negative interests, etc.
Lust is an uncontrollable, intense desire that’s borne negatively. For example, when a man sees a new house own by another person and he admires and desires to have the house at all cost even if it involves disobeying God’s word that is LUST.
In our church today, we can see people who are so engrossed with the will to succeed in business, school, and other worldly pursuits even at the expense of their relationship with Christ; some don’t care if they miss services, some don’t care if they kill for it-Take heed.
All those that are carried away with this spirit won’t have a place in the kingdom of God. Instead of allowing the lust of the flesh and the pride of life to detect your life, surrender your heart to God and channel your longings unto God.
DON’T LUST AFTER THE WORLD OR THE THINGS IN THE WORLD.
Prayer point- I refuse to be governed by the spirit of lust. I channel my desires to serve God.
