DON’T MURMUR AGAIN

MAIN TEXT- 1 Corinthians 10:10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured and were destroyed of the destroyers.

Philippians 2:14 – Do all things without murmurings and disputing; that ye may be blameless and harmless.

Literally, to murmur means to complain in low tones or criticize or grumble about the actions of other people. It can be a subdued expression of discontent or anger. It suggests the malicious whispering of slander. Likewise, it is used in connection with the complaint of the Israelites in the desert against God. Murmuring is a sign of spiritual weakness and indicates that there is something wrong with one’s attitude and his relationship with God.

Murmuring attracts some consequences, Numbers 11:1 tells that when people complained, it displeased the Lord and the fire of the Lord consumed the people of Israel. James 5:9 further says, “murmur not brethren… that ye be not judged”. Murmuring gradually erases the memories of the goodness of God in our lives. Just like the people of Israel, God might sometimes overlook and we think that it does not count, but in the end it will lead to destruction.

Instead of murmuring, let’s do what Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 6:16-18 … ‘In everything, give thanks… and rejoice always because murmuring will rob us of our joy and make us to forget all the beautiful and marvelous things He has done for us. We must focus on the good side instead, it will heal us, and we overcome the attitude of murmuring.

REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS, AND AGAIN I SAY REJOICE

PRAYER: Help me to stay close to you O Lord and teach me how to stay rejoicing in you, AMEN
