LOVE NOT THE WORLD
MAIN TEXT: 1 JOHN 2:1
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the father is not in him. (AKJV)
ISAIAH 52:11
Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch not unclean things: go ye out of the midst of her, be ye clean that bear the vessel of the Lord. (AKJV)
Today’s devotional topic “Love not the world” is not a suggestion but an instruction from God to you. Even though you are still in the world, God does not want you to behave like the people of the world.
God gave His only son to die, redeem and reconcile us back to Him. If God loves you as a human being, it is only reasonable that you reciprocate the love by doing only those things that pleases Him. Loving the world means loving yourself, looking to the world and not to Christ to satisfy you. When you do not have time to attend Bible studies, pray, evangelize or attend fellowships but have time for worldly pleasures like social, political or economic activities, it simply means that you love the world more than God.
Loving the world hinders your fellowship with God. This is why God is emphasizing in our second text: Isaiah 52:11, that you should depart, get out, touch not and go out from the midst of the world. If you love God, which you should, you will love what He loves. The way of the world is destructive and hinders a mutual relationship with God.
LOVING THE WORLD IS ENMITY WITH GOD AND THAT IS DANGEROUS
PRAYER: Oh Lord, separate me from worldliness and give me the spirit to love you with all my heart, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
