OBEY AUTHORITIES
Main Text: Hebrews 13:17
Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden for that would be of no advantage to you (NIV).
Romans 13:1 – Everyone must submit himself to the governing authority, for there is no authority except that which God has established the authorities that exist have been established by God
Any instruction, command or directive given, God expects them to be obeyed to the later. God speaks to us in diverse ways- through pastors, church elders even our peers at one time or the other and our responsibility is to obey. Don’t say if God wants me to do this, He should have spoken to me? God is sovereign, He reserves the right to speak to us through any means he deems fit.
The religious and secular authorities, all fulfill the purpose of God. We are encouraged to obey more the church authorities because when we obey them, such obedience attracts blessings from God. It pleases God because when we obey, we foster unity among brethren.
When we live like this, we show and teach people about submission and faithfulness in service. Humility is introduced and pride goes. It is pride and arrogance that is the cause of insubordination and we must resist the devil.
OBEDIENCE TO AUTHORITIES IS OBEDIENCE TO GOD
