WE BELONG TO GOD
Main Text: 1 Corinthians 6:20
For you were bought at a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God’s.
Psalm 100:3 – Know that the Lord, He is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
In the text above Paul confirms that, “you are not your own” and that our bodies belong to God. He said this because many people believe they have the right to do whatever they want or like with their own bodies. Though they think that this is freedom, they are enslaved with their own desires.
When we become Christians, the Holy Spirit fills and lives in us. We therefore no longer own our bodies. To some people also being a Christian only has to do with “spiritual things and not “physical things”. Paul however is very clear that our physical body along with our spirit were bought at a great price –the blood of Jesus Christ.
Once we become born again Christians, the Holy Spirit fills and lives in us. We no longer own our bodies. Christ’s death freed us from sin and therefore obligates us to his services. That’s why in Romans; 12, Paul admonishes us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God as our spiritual act of worship. We are also advised to be transformed by the renewal of our mind through the word.
Remember that good health and sexual purity are integral part of glorifying God with our bodies.
OUR MIND AND BODY BELONG TO GOD.
PRAYER: Father, deliver me from the lust of the flesh that leads to abuse of my body in Jesus name. Amen
