ALWAYS SEEK GOD FIRST

ALWAYS SEEK GOD FIRST

Main text: Matthew 6:33
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you”.

Psalm 37:4 – Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

To seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness means to turn to God first for help in all occasion. That means we should keep the main thing, the main thing. It also means to fill our thought with God’s desires, to take His character for our pattern and to serve and obey Him in everything.

God demands first place in our lives and we are instructed to seek the kingdom of God and His way of being and doing before we seek anything else.

Peoples, objects, goals and other desires all compete for priority and any of them can quickly become most important to us if we don’t actively choose to give God first place in every area of our life.

It is not wrong to go to people to seek for words of counsel who we think are wiser than we are. It is rather wrong to consult the people first and too often. We should be mature enough in our faith that we do not run to somebody else every time we need to know what to do. Take the example of David at Ziklag (1 Sam 30:7-8).

Brethren, seek balance in this area and wean yourself from seeking other people’s opinions first if you have a consistent habit of doing so. Discipline yourself to go to God first and let Him choose whether He wants to speak to you Himself or use the counsel of other believers to clarify things for you.

WHEN WE PUT HIM FIRST, KEEP HIM THERE

Prayer: Most times we pretend we can manage our lives to get to the answer, without you, but we can’t. Lord help us to seek you first always.
