CARRY A HOLY FRAGRANCE 1
Main text: Hebrew 12:14 – “Strive for peace with all men and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord”
1 Peter 1:16 – “Since it is written, you shall be holy for I am holy”
Fragrance denotes pleasing scent, sweet- smelling and delightful. God’s holiness points to His transcendence and depicts Him as being above and beyond His creation in such a way as to be distinct from it and separate from all sins.
Carrying a holy fragrance then means that we carry the image and embodiment of God in a sweet-smelling and delightful manner as our identity anywhere we are, being set apart from the world unto God, without which no one will see him, according to our main text for today.
There are three senses to achieve this. First, the moment we put our faith in Jesus Christ as our savior, we are sanctified or set apart unto God. Then we must be progressively sanctified by growing in holiness. This process will not be complete as long as we’re in the body, but we must actively work at it. (Galatians 5:16 – But I say, walk by the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.) Romans 8:13 – ‘for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live’. When we meet the Lord we will be perfectly sanctified.
The key word is strive, we must be committed to being holy and carrying this divine fragrance that is pleasing to God. A life fashioned after the lust of the flesh cannot please God and the condition is that such life must die to allow the operation of the Spirit of God. This divine fragrance is a door opener to your destiny.
