NO LIP SERVICE
MAIN TEXT: ISAIAH 29:13 – O Jehovah our God, other lords besides thee have had dominion over us; but by thee only will we make mention of thy name.
MATTHEW 15:8 – This people honoreth me with their lips; But their heart is far from me.
Lip service means saying ‘Yes’ with your mouth but saying ‘No’ in your heart and by your action. It is showing a manner of deceitful service to God with your mouth but your heart is far from God. God truly delights in our praises as we sing to him but he wants our character to do the praise as well. We ought to enter God’s presence; he demands that our words of praise correspond with our actions.
According to Matthew 15:8, mere words are not enough, if we say that we are born again children of God, we should show it by the way we live in secret and publicly. God does not see as man sees. He sees the heart more than the countenance of our faces. Lip service is self deceit. Is your worship to God deeply rooted in all sincerity?
We should not call on God in the day and bow down to idols at night. Our relationship with God should be strong. There are those who render service but are not servants. They do not want to be seen as servants unto the Lord while some render services so that they will receive recommendations and not necessarily with good motives. Make a vow today that every form of lip service will not be found in your life again.
