THE DANGER OF BACKSLIDING 2

MAIN TEXT: ROMANS 6:1-2
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. We who died to sin, how shall we any longer live therein?

PSALM 26:2 – Examine me, O Jehovah, and prove me; Try my heart and my mind.

It is necessary to examine yourself to know if you are still in faith or if there is any signal of backsliding and if there is any found, it is expedient to repent and go back to God for He is merciful to forgive. King David, a man after God’s heart turned away from righteousness by sleeping with Uriah’s wife and sending him to the war front to die. Solomon in all his wisdom followed his wives and concubines who worshiped other gods to commit idolatry, Peter and the other disciples abandoned the Lord’s business and went back to do theirs but when they realized their sins and went to God in repentance, He forgave and restored them. God has not changed, go to Him in repentance He will forgive and restore you. Don’t procrastinate.

To avoid backsliding, you must avoid among other things, evil communication, for it corrupts good manners (1Corinthians 15:33). Do not befriend them to avoid erring, however, you can wisely and carefully speak Jesus to them from a distance. Again, avoid wrong and unholy marriage. Do not marry a man or woman who does not love God to avoid being lured to err. The Word of God in Colossians 2:8 tells us to beware less any man spoils us through philosophy and vain deceit, traditions of men and the ways of the world. Instead we should hold fast to the faith in Jesus Christ we have received, be rooted in him and walk in Him.

RESIST BACKSLIDING AND LIVE FOR CHRIST

PRAYER: I reject every spirit of backsliding in Jesus name. Amen
