PRAYER MARATHON

Main Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:17
‘‘Pray without ceasing’’

Colossians 4:2 – ‘‘Continue earnestly in prayer being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.

Do you struggle to maintain a consistent prayer life? Many of us do. We know that prayer is important but it can also be downright difficult. We have moments of deep communion with God and then we have times when it feels like we’re just going through the motions. Why do we struggle so in our prayers?

The Christian life is built on faith and the life of faith is a marathon. The ups, the downs and the plateaus in our prayer life are a reflection of this race. And just as in marathon we have to keep running, so we keep praying. The point is ‘‘don’t give up’’, prayer has no overdose. It will make you prepared and ever-ready.

That is God’s encouragement too. The apostle Paul said we should ‘‘continue steadfastly in prayer’’ Romans 12:12, this statement carry the idea of remaining steadfast and continuing in the work of prayer. God our heavenly father is a personal being we can develop a time of close communion with Him just as we do with our close human relationships.

We may not spend all our times on our knees praying, but we can have a prayerful attitude at all times. We can find it natural to pray frequently, or spontaneous short prayers. Then we can be said to be ‘‘Prayed-up’’ or always ‘pre-prayed’.

PRAYER BANKING IS THE SURE WAY TO VICTORY

Prayer: Almighty God, help and direct us to be always prayed-up in Jesus name.
