DON’T CONSIDER LOOKING BACK

Main Text: Luke 9:62 – Jesus replied, ‘No one who puts his hand to the plough and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God’

Hebrews 12:2 – ‘Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame and sat down at the right hand of God’.

Looking back suggests backsliding, which indicates that there is an alternative to God. What have you forsaken for Christ? Leave them where you forsook them. When you think about your ‘loss’ as a Christian, it means that you regret being a child of God.

Jesus said when you put your hand to the plough and look back; you are not fit for service in His kingdom. That is, you are a double-minded person and cannot be trusted with the matters of the kingdom and therefore disqualified. There is nothing you forsook for Christ in the past that equals the blessing in your future if you remain steadfast in faith.

Trusting Jesus will get you into heaven but nothing less than following Him daily will make you useful in His kingdom. When you look back and crave the delicacies of this earthly kings’ portion which pollutes, it pulls you away from the right path and eventually destroys the individual.

LOOKING BACK IS NOT AN OPTION

Prayer: Lord, grant me the grace to continually follow you wholeheartedly.
