PRAYER BLOCKERS
Main Text: Mark 11:25 – ‘‘when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone. Forgive them so that your father in heaven may forgive you your sins’’.
Matthew 6:27 – Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
Prayer is our communication with our Almighty Father in heaven and there are certain things that can block or get in the way of the success of such communication.
Scripture tells us that SIN can block our relationship with God. ‘‘If we regard iniquity in our heart, the Lord will not hear’’ Psalm 66:18. In our main text above, Jesus instructs that when we stand in prayer, if we have anything against anyone, we should forgive them, so that our Father in heaven may forgive our sins, and answer our prayers.
Our communication with God can also be hindered by DOUBT in James 1:6 the scripture admonishes us to ask God in faith ‘‘with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind’’. He who asks with doubt will receive nothing from the Lord (V.7) for he is double minded and therefore unstable.
In 1 Peter 3:7, the Bible warns us to be careful how we handle our other relationships particularly with our wives ‘‘giving them honour as being heirs together of the grace of life, so that our prayers may not be hindered’’. But our prayers don’t have to be hindered in anyway. By the work of the Holy spirit, God lovingly draws us to restore communications with him.
As we confess our sins and turn to Him, by God’s grace we experience the greatest communication, the universe has ever known, one-to-one prayer between us and our Holy God.
Pray: Father God, guide us to discover what is limiting our communication with you. Help us connect with you always.
