THE HOLY GHOST POWER
MAIN TEXT: Acts 2:1-2
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Pentecost was also called the “Feast of Harvest” and it was a harvest festival, to celebrate the wheat harvest. Bread made from the first grain harvested would be offered to the LORD as an offering of thanksgiving for the harvest. (It was kind of their Thanksgiving Day). Pentecost means “fiftieth.” That’s because the festival occurs 50 days after Passover.
When Jesus Christ was departing from the Earth physically, He told His disciples to go and prayerfully tarry in Jerusalem until they were filled with power from heaven – Luke 24:49-50. As they were in Jerusalem praying for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, on the tenth day after Christ’s Ascension, the Holy Ghost Power came upon them for greater works.
Peter and the other disciples who were afraid previously, possessed the Spirit of boldness and power to preach the gospel of Christ and manifest God’s authority. It happened on the Pentecost day signifying power for a great harvest to the kingdom of God. On the day of Thanksgiving to God, God responded to them with greater anointing from above.

Prayer: O Lord Jesus Christ, empower me with the Holy Spirit for your Kingdom exploits and welcome the Holy Spirit in my life in Jesus’ name. Amen
