CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST
MAIN TEXT: Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ [in Him, I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ (the Messiah) lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”
Romans 6:6—Knowing this that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with so that we would no longer be slaves to sin.
At some point in our personal Bible studies, we have come across this verse, a statement from the famous Apostle Paul in his letter to the church in Galatia. However, regardless of the commonness of this verse, many Christians still don’t understand what it means to be crucified with Christ.
Jesus was crucified to nail our sins to the cross. He did this by carrying the sins of the whole world; past, present, and future, and nailing them to the cross. What does this mean for a Christian who “claims” to be crucified with Christ?
Being crucified with Christ simply means the crucifixion of the sinful nature of man on the cross, death, and burial. It means nailing the old man in us to the cross where Jesus died. It means we no longer carry the old man in us, but a different nature, a nature that is one with God.
The second part of our first text says, “Nevertheless, I live. But the life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me,” tells us that the crucifixion was not a physical death, but a spiritual one.
We no longer live the life of the old man, but we live a brand-new life in Christ; one that is filled with faith, hope, trust, assurance, and eternal life.
IT IS TIME TO EMBRACE THE NEW LIFE IN CHRIST AND MANIFEST THE LIFE
PRAYER: Dear Lord, I surrender my all to you. I let go of my old life, and I choose to live the life of Christ today. In Jesus name, let the new life in Christ find full expression. Amen.
