NOT ALL THAT GLITTERS…
MAIN TEXT: Proverbs 16:25—There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.
1 Samuel 16:7—But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
The popular saying, ‘The eye is the gateway to the soul’, is deeper than most people think. In the world today, wealth and material possessions have gripped many people, thereby the days of questioning the source of one’s wealth is irrelevant. Of course, the world we live in celebrates successes based on physical ‘getting’. Occasionally, what is celebrated as success or ‘gold mine’ is a curse in the real sense of it. Remember, the blessing of the Lord makes you rich and brings no sorrow with it.
Not every ‘blessing’ is divine—from God. Many times, we have attributed our successes to God’s faithfulness in our lives and bothered less to inquire of the Lord whether He is the architect of it. From our main text, we are reminded that God looks beyond the physical eyes, unlike man. We must covet this character of God to judge and scrutinize every ‘blessing’ beyond the natural eyes.
The glittering of a matter could be deceptive, and that is why we must inquire from God even in matters of relationship that leads to marriage or business partnership. It’s not always how we think it is, to seek God’s approval.
NOT ALL THAT SHINES IS GOLD
