FEBRUARY 25 MONDAY
Topic: CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
Main Text: 1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Second text: 1 John 1: 7- “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His son cleanseth us from all sin”.
We are sinners by nature and by choice and since our God is holy and abhors sin, we incur His wrath when we sin. The remedy therefore is not to hide our sins but to step into the light of Gods truth and confess them to Him.
God never condone sin or does He spare His chastening rod but when we confess, He begins a new work in our hearts, removes the blot of sin entirely and makes us stronger and more useful than we were before. He forgives us.
There must be genuine confession and repentance before forgiveness is obtained. In Psalm 51, David cried out to God for mercy and forgiveness against his sin with Bathsheba and the murder that followed.
Almost a year passed before David realized his sin after Nathan the prophet convinced him of the sin. Then he was forgiven after repenting. True confession requires us to listen to God to, and consciously desire to stop doing wrong.
David in Psalm 19:13 prayed God to forgive his hidden faults and keep him from willful sins. We may not be able to remember every sin we have committed but our attitude should be one of confession, repentance and obedience.
“Go and sin no more” was the advice of Jesus Christ to the woman caught in adultery (John 8:11). If we plan to commit the sin again after confessing it, it is not genuine confession, for there is nothing like temporary forgiveness. Unconfessed sins are the potholes on the road of our Christian journey.
To repair this road, we need genuine confession and repentance.
