PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH

PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH

Main text: Matthew 23:3 – So you must be careful to everything they tell you. But do not what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.

Matthew 5:14 – you are the light of the world, a town built on a hill cannot be hidden.

Most times, we are good at telling other people what they should do and how they should live, but we fail to follow our own instructions. We need to, as the saying goes “walk the walk, not just talk the talk”. Our main text in Matthew 23:3 tells the crowds and his disciples to do what the Pharisees and the scribes teach them to do, “do not do as they do”, for they do not practice what they teach.

In other words, the leaders talk the talk, but they don’t walk the walk. This is common among our preachers. A certain Christian will climb the pulpit and preach on faith and love but outside the church, his faith life is very low and is different from his preaching. He doesn’t put to practice what he teaches people. In this case, who is deceiving who?

Matt 5:14, Jesus tells us that we are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. People are watching you as a believer and are attracted by the way you live and the words you speak. The words you speak should match the person you claim to be. If you profess that you are a follower of Christ, then your way of life should be a reflection of that relationship. Your attitude towards people, your family, friends, neighbors, strangers and relations. The way you act in church should be the same way you act at home, work, around other Christians, supermarket.

LEARN TO LIVE YOUR LIVES IN WAYS THAT REFLECT CHRIST

Prayer: Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to live according to what I preach and the word I study.
