FREEDOM AT LAST
MAIN TEXT: GALATIANS 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then and do not let yourself be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (NIV)
ROMANS 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit. (KJV)
The topic “free at last” suggests that there was a bondage experience. This is true because from the beginning God made man with great freedom and dominion over the earth. When man disobeyed God in Eden, he lost his freedom of fellowship with God and sieges his dominion power over the earth to the devil that held him bound. As a result of this sin, evil, affliction, death, sorrow etc multiplied in the life of man and he became miserable. God’s love for mankind made him to send his son Jesus Christ from heaven to earth to free man from the bondage of sin and everlasting death. Jesus came and conquered the devil by his death and resurrection from the dead. We must understand that this freedom is for those who appreciate what Jesus did for man at Calvary and accept him as their Lord and personal savior.
In a revelation, Jesus with a bloodstained bandage round his head said “I came and died to set those under bondage free.” What is it that is holding you bound to the devil? Is it addiction to hard drugs, women, men, worshiping idols, occult practices, legalizing illegalities etc? No matter how deep or long you have entangled yourself with the devil, go ahead and confess all to Jesus Christ, he is more than able to set you free. John 8:36 says if Jesus sets you free you are free indeed. You must not listen to the voice of the devil telling you how difficult or dangerous it is to denounce those evil ways. This is because it wants to put you under perpetual bondage. If the thief that was crucified with Jesus confessed to Jesus and was freed and saved, you stand a better chance. Our first and second texts are assuring you that as you confess and remain with Jesus Christ, nothing can hold you captive again. Go for your freedom today!
