THE DEATH TRAP OF SIN
Main Text: James 1:15 – Then when lust had conceived, it bringeth forth sin and sin when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Sin in this context simply means to disobey God’s command, including unbelief. Every sin attracts punishment. The first sin started in heaven. The bible says that there was war in heaven and the dragon with his supporters fought back but prevailed not and his place was taken away from him – Rev 12:7-8.
Beloved, the saying is true that whoever removes the hedge, the serpent bites. The devil knows that he has lost his place in heaven and is therefore in a serious deal here on earth to cause believers to sin and to bring sorrow to our God. Deceit and unbelief are the devil’s strongest weapons to trap believers.
Child of God, it is possible to avoid sin. The bible says that you should resist the devil and he will flee from you – James 4:7. No sin can overtake you unless you permit it. The devils greatest enemy is the word of God. Therefore, be at alert and utilise the word of God as a means to avoiding sin. Jesus applied God’s word when the devil wanted to trap Him at the end of his fast.
You can follow Jesus example by arming yourself with the word of God to withhold any manner of temptation which the devil may bring your way. This will enable you to be victorious over the devil at all times.
WITH GOD’S WORD YOU CAN OVERCOME SIN
