DISCIPLESHIP IS DYING TO SELF

DISCIPLESHIP IS DYING TO SELF

Main text: LUKE 9:6(kjv) ―And he said to them all, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me‖

Matthew 4:19 – Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will make you fishers of men.

If you want to find yourself, you must be willing to lose yourself in the cause of Christ. If you want to come alive in the fullest sense, you must be willing to die to all forms of self-centeredness and live for Christ.‖

In AD 44, King Herod ordered James the greater to be thrust through with a sword. He was the first of the Apostle to be martyred. Luke was hanged from an Olive tree in Greece. Doubting Thomas was burned alive in India. Philip was crucified and preached from the cross with his dying breaths. Mathew was stabbed in the back in Ethiopia.

Bartholomew was flogged to death in Armenia. James the first was thrown off the southeast pinnacle of the Temple in Jerusalem, then clubbed to death by a mob. We can go on and on through Church history to explain how the early disciples of Jesus were killed, the list is endless.

We may not be killed physically like these ones, but if we must be true disciples of Jesus Christ, we must die to self, and anything that promotes self.
