DEATH – A SURE THING

DEATH – A SURE THING

Main Text: Hebrews. 9:27

“…..it is appointed for man to die once but after this judgment”.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 – but I would not have you to be ignorant brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

In spite of advances in medical science in seeking to prolong and improve the quality of life, death remains unchanged and inevitable. It is appointed for man to die once (Heb. 9:27) because all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23) and the wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23). Thus death is become a sure thing for all mankind. The only difference is how and where we go after death.

The truth is, the moment we were born, we all began to run out of time. It is just that in the wonder and excitement of childhood and adolescence, and busyness and stress of mid-life, we don’t think about it much. But as we age and realize that we have less time ahead of us than behind us, we begin to pray with the psalmist “teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom (Ps 90:12) Read and study Ecclesiastes chapter 12 for the process.

For unbelievers, death seals their doom, but for believers, death leads to glory. The wise person faces up to the certainty of death and the wiser still is the one who prepares for it. Dying is the last page of time and first page of eternity and the grace that has saved and sustained you this far will be with you as you transform from your letter life into your greater one.

PRAYER: Lord teach us to number our days, that we may develop a heart of wisdom.
