CHRIST, THE SAVIOUR

CHRIST, THE SAVIOUR

Main text: Luke 2:11- For today, in the city of David there has been born to you a savior, who is Christ the Lord.

Acts 13:23 – From the descendants of this man, according to promise, God has brought to Israel, a savior, Jesus.

God’s work of salvation is accomplished supremely through the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christ reveals Himself through his earthly life as the savior sent by the Father for the salvation of the world. His name “Jesus”, expresses this mission. It actually means, ” Good saves”. It is a name he was given as a result of heavenly instruction. In the message to Joseph, the meaning of the name is explained ” for He will save His people from their sins”. Christ defines His saving mission as a service whose highest expression will be the sacrifice of His life for mankind. ” For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many” ( Matthew 20:28).

According to our main text, Luke 2:11 , it simply means that Christ, the savior whom God had provided and appointed from the beginning and had promised us, is a great One, being God as well as man, and so able to work out a great salvation for great sinners, which He has done; and he is as willing to save as a complete saviour and an everlasting one: hence, His name is called Jesus, because he saves from sin, Satan, law, death and wrath to come. His coming on Earth gives us hope for eternal life. We are justified and made righteous. He sanctifies us with the blood of Jesus, His son and redeems us from our sins.

CHRIST THE SAVIOUR, OUR HOPE FOR ETERNAL LIFE Prayer – Heavenly Father, through the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross for my sake, cleanse me from my sins, iniquity and unrighteousness
