THE IDENTITY OF JESUS CHRIST – A TRILEMMA

THE IDENTITY OF JESUS CHRIST – A TRILEMMA

Main Text: Mark 3:29

“But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, he is guilty of an eternal sin”.

Hebrews 10:31 – It is a dangerous thing to fall into the hand of the living God

In Mark 3: 20-35, we are faced with three different decisions about the identity of who Jesus Christ is. Either He is who He says He is- the Son of God- and deserves our complete obedience or He is an imposter, who work, with the power of the head of demon-Beelzebub- and should not be trusted or He is out of His mind, because He could not have time to eat bread because of His father’s work. C.S. Lewis described the situation as a trilemma and there is no middle ground for He is either a lunatic, a lair/imposter or the Lord.

We see these three choices in the scriptures above; First, the family of Jesus came to rescue Him because He was so engrossed in His father’s work that He could not eat bread. They thought He has lost His mind. Some of the religious leaders believed Him as an imposter possessed by the devil. There are those who listened to him and believed what He taught. They made Him the centre of their lives and became His spiritual family. They believed He was really the Son of God.

Today there are people who try to avoid all the three choices. They hear about Jesus and shrug their shoulders strangely indifferent to His message. That’s a dangerous position to take because, to not decide about Jesus is to decide against Him.

WHO DO YOU BELIEVE IN?

Prayer – Almighty Father, help us to be in your will always, making Jesus the centre of our lives. Amen.
