COMMITMENT TO HOLY LIVING

MAIN TEXT: DANIEL 1:8
“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the King’s meat, nor with the wine, he requested of the Prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself”.

Matthew 5:48 – “Be ye therefore perfect, even as Your Father which is in Heaven is perfect”.

It is seen in the main text, Daniel kept his integrity. Nowadays, some people who profess to be born again easily give in when pressured by their superiors to do ungodly things, to gain promotion or one thing or the other. They forgot the admonition in 2Timothy 3:12, which says, “But godliness with contentment is great gain”.

What is holiness? It is simply total obedience to the word of God. When you are obedient to God’s word, you demonstrate faith in Him and your life will be pleasing in His sight. That is commitment to Holy living. It was disobedience that took Adam from a position of honor to laboring under a curse. Take a cue from Joseph who is in the face of deadly pressure, said in Genesis 39:9 …. “How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?”

Many times, people say it is impossible to live a holy life. That is not true; Jesus lived on earth for thirty-three years without committing a single sin “Be thou holy for I am holy.” If Jesus can do it, beloved you can do it too because His grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:19).
Holiness is simply obedience. Once you know the right thing to do, do it. You have read in your bible not to steal, don’t steal, you heard, don’t lie, don’t lie, just obey. When you wake up in the morning, renew your commitment to live holy, just as you keep your body clean on daily basis. This is a point of sanctification where a person begins to love righteousness and hate iniquity.

“THY WORD HAVE I HID IN MINE HEART THAT I MIGHT NOT SIN AGAINST THEE.”

Prayer: Heavenly Father, let your spirit guide me to meditate on your word day and night in order to live a Holy life.
