THE WAR IS OVER

Main Text: Ephesians 2:16-17 And that he might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And he came and preached peace to you who were afar and to those who were near

At the end of the Nigerian Civil War, sometime in January 1970, while the commanding officers of the Nigerian Army were negotiating peace terms with the Biafran officers at Owerri, some detachments of the forces of both sides were busy slugging it out at the outskirts of Orlu and Okigwe in Biafra. They did not hear that the war was over. They continued to endure miserable conditions in their trenches when they could have returned happily to the comfort of their homes.

This type of scene exists in the spiritual realm too. Jesus Christ made peace between God and Man by dying in our place. He paid sins penalty on the cross. Anyone who accepts his sacrifice will be forgiven by God (John 1:12).

Sadly many people refuse to believe the gospel (good news) and continue to live as spiritual fugitives. Sometimes even those who have placed their trust in Christ live at most in the same level, either out of ignorance or unwillingness. They fail to claim the promise of God’s word. They do not experience joy and assurance that should accompany salvation.

THE WAR IS OVER, LIVE LIKE A VICTOR

Prayer: Almighty Father, pardon us for not realizing the fullness of what you have done for us. Help us to trust your saving work and claim the triumph you have won for us.
