THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY
Main text: LUKE 22:42 – “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
Romans 3:24 – And all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus
Thank God it’s Friday indeed. For thousands of years, all creation waited for a day like today – a Good Friday. A day marked for the eternal liberation of mankind from the bondages of the evil one – Satan and sin. On a day like this, Christ took upon Himself the punishment for you and redeemed you from damnation.
Let’s consider the word redemption which simply means rescue upon payment of a ransom. In the context of today’s discussion, there was rescue made by our Lord Jesus Christ and the ransom was the sinless blood of our Saviour. This act of love by Jesus Christ justified us freely from death penalty. We were all headed for slaughter and suddenly Christ came on the scene, laid down His life and took our place.
This was promised fulfilled when God told Abraham in Genesis 22 that He will provide for the sacrifice instead of Isaac his son. Jesus Christ paid the price. The message of the cross is the power God to those who are saved – 1 Corinthians 1:18 “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
