THE GOOD OF TRIBULATION

Main Text: Romans 5:3-4 ‘‘We also glory in tribulation, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance, perseverance character and character hope …..

Romans 8:28 – And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose.

A young born-again Christian asked an elderly believer or Christian to pray that he would have patience. The older man knelt down on his knees and began praying, ‘‘Lord send this man tribulation in the morning, send this young man tribulations in the afternoon, and in the night send him tribulations’’. At this point, the young Christian blurted out ‘‘No, No, I did not ask you to pray for tribulation. I wanted you to pray for patience’’. Ah! Responded the wise old Christian ‘‘it’s through tribulation that we learn patience’’.

The old Christians words resonate what the apostle Paul said in our main text above, that tribulation produces ‘‘perseverance’’ – The word translated patience or perseverance means steadfastness – the ability to remain under difficulties without quitting or giving in. This is certainly true in Paul’s life and ministry. He had suffered beating, whipping, stoning and even shipwreck, yet he remained steadfast in the faith and did not shrink from his calling (2 Cor. 11:23-33).

Are you facing a difficult testing time or tribulation? Then praise God. For under His wise control, everything that happens to you, whether enjoyable or painful, is designed to develop patience and perseverance. That’s why suffering saints can glory in tribulation

ALL THINGS ARE WORKING TOGETHER FOR YOUR GOOD.

Prayer:
As we continue to wait on you dear Lord, help us to bear the weight of adversity that we may develop character, perseverance and hope.
