REMEMBER THE NEEDY

REMEMBER THE NEEDY

MAIN TEXT – GALATIANS 2:10

Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do

James 2: 18a – Show me your faith apart from your works and I, by my works, will show you faith.

James instructs Christians to live out their faith with their deeds. “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action is dead (verse 17). He was concerned that the church should take care of the widows and the orphans – the needy (James 1:27) and he also wanted them to rely not on empty words but act on their faith with deeds of love.

Accordingly, a story was told about an incident that happened towards the end of World War 2, the allied armies gathered up many hungry orphans and placed in camps where they were well-fed but they still could not sleep well. So they decided that after every meal that each child would sleep with a loaf of bread in his hand. It was found out that it produced a good result because they slept with the knowledge that they had their meal for the next day.

This is what is required from Christians – to give care and hope to the poor and needy. We should not treat them as inferior. Remember that Jesus said, that “whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers that you do unto me”. There is a promise in Psalm 41:1, “Blessed is he who considers the poor; the Lord delivers him in the day of trouble”.

SHOW RESPECT EVEN TO THE POOR, THEY ARE HUMANS TOO

Prayer point – Lord, give me the resources and heart to accommodate the needy in Jesus name. Amen
