When man was cast out of the Garden of Eden, he lost opportunities and privileges given to him by God as His son. Thus the reconciliation of man back to God became necessary. God in His magnanimity sent His only Son Jesus Christ to redeem man – John 3:16. This is why Jesus Christ had to go through the redemption process – the way (stations) of the cross with the accompanying humiliation, degradation and insults, His death and His eventual resurrection.
Nothing in our Lord’s life called for His death. He was free from sin’s fatal infection, yet He willingly offered himself to die in our place. Only the spotless Son of God can provide salvation. Only a dying savior who validates His sacrifice by bodily resurrection can lift the burden of sin’s guilt. This is a
demonstration of grace overpowering the consequences of sin (Romans 5:20-21). Jesus Christ paid sin’s penalty by dying on the cross and broke its power by rising from the dead. Victory, not defeat should be the norm in the Christian’s life.
Christians therefore should never cease to glory in His sacrifice on the cross. What he did for us should always fill us with gratitude and give us refuge. Christ did it all, so now there is no condemnation to those that are in Christ Jesus…(Rom 8:1).
