PROMOTE UNITY

PROMOTE UNITY

MAIN TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:3-4

Endeavoring to keep the unity of the spirit…just as you were called in one hope.

1 Corinthians 12:25 – that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another.

God hates one who sows discord among brethren – Proverbs 6:19. No wonder the Psalmist tells us that when brothers dwell in unity, it’s like the precious oil upon the head, running down on…the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments (Psalm 133:1-2). Facing death, Jesus prayed not only
for Himself but also for His disciples and for us. His urgent request for us is that of unity among Christians.

God himself also made us to be dependent not only on Him but also on one another. The Apostle Paul elaborated on this idea in his letter to the church at Corinth, “as members of the body of Christ, we all have different gifts and abilities and should work together in harmony, seeking one interest and goal.

Today’s topic is a call for Christians to be instruments to promote unity in the society, churches and families. 1 Cor 1:10 specifically addressed the divisive spirit that had grown in the church which threatened the unity among the members. People were quarreling because they were aligning themselves with different Christian leaders – Paul, Apollos, Peter and even Christ. In creating these divisions, they were valuing their favorite leader above unity in Christ. The church is healthy only when we work together, look out for each other, and use our strength to benefit one another.

WHEN WE PROMOTE UNITY, WE PROMOTE HIS LOVE

Prayer: May the unity that comes from our love and service to one another fragrantly grace our families, churches and friendship.
