The Internet and the Christian

FEBRUARY 21 THURSDAY

Topic: THE INTERNET AND THE CHRISTIAN

Main Text-Proverbs 15:14 (NIV) – “The discerning heart seek knowledge but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly”

Second text: Psalm 44:21 (KJV) – Shall not God search this thing out? For He knoweth the secrets of the heart‟.

We have more information now than we had in the last ten years in all history before. Many have become addicted to the hyper-stimulation of the constant barrage of news and knowledge which have dominated their minds.

In this present environment, it becomes increasingly difficult to find time to be quiet, to think, to pray or listen to the voice of God.

Many of us become anxious the moment we are separated from our smart phones and/or laptops. Like many things, the internet and all that it allows us to access, can become either a distraction, or a blessing.

It depends on what we do with it .For the wise who is hungry for knowledge and applying the wisdom of God’s word to life, we should ask ourselves the following questions: Do we check our social networks/internet compulsively throughout the day? What does that say about the things we are hunger for? And do the things we read or view on-line encourage a devoted Christian life? Or are we feeding on folly gossip, slander, materialism or sexual impurity?

As we yield to the work of the Holy Spirit, we can fill our minds with the things that are true and honourable and right and pure and lovely and admirable (Philippians 4:8). By God’s wisdom we can make good choices that honour God. The bible instructs us to set our affections on heavenly things and not on mundane things of this world.

In Romans 12:2, God is telling us to constantly renew our minds with the word of God which is the will of God. Child of God, how much time do you spend every day to feed your mind with God’s work?

Beloved, let us seek Gods wisdom and guidance in whatever we do, even as we use our internet.

PRAYER : Guide us oh Lord to make good choices, fill our minds with what is pure and honourable.
