Hearing the still small voice

FEBRUARY 22 FRIDAY

Topic: HEARING “THE STILL SMALL VOICE”

Main Text: John 10:27 (KJV) – “My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me”

Second text: Joshua 3:9 (KJV) – And Joshua said unto the people of Israel, come hither, and hear the words of the Lord your God.

In today’s environment of media/internet bombardment, it becomes increasingly difficult to find time to be quiet, to think and to pray. A cacophony of sounds can drown out God’s still small voice.

However, despite this cacophony of sound and voices around us, if we are quiet in our souls and listen, we will hear Gods still small voice. In 1 Kings 19:12-13, the Bible helps us to understand how to hear God when we need direction. God did not reassure Elijah with a showy, flashy manifestation of power although He had proven that He was capable of doing so earlier.

Instead He spoke to His prophet through a still small voice- and He still chooses to communicate directly to us, His children through a whisper deep within spirits. Some Christians do not hear this voice because they do not believe Him (God) and thus do not have His word living in them (John 5:37-40).

To hear this “small voice”, we must be born again. Then we will be made alive in our spirits to be sensitive to this voice of God. We hear His whisper even though we cannot tell from where it is coming from.

Our ears become tuned in to hear our Master’s voice. He whispers to convict, correct and direct us by His “still small voice” within our hearts. He speaks to us every day, summoning us in our restlessness and our longing.

He calls to us in our deepest sorrow and in the incompleteness and dissatisfaction of our greatest joys. But most importantly, He speaks to us in His words (1 Thessalonians 2:13).

As you read and study the bible, you too will hear His voice. He loves us more than we can ever know. He wants us to hear what He has to say because it is important and will lead us to living right.

Always create an atmosphere to hear this “still small voice”.

Prayer Point: Dear Lord, help us to listen to your voice as we spend times alone with you.
