Main text: Mark 12:33 – And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is much more than all whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices.

Romans 12:9 – Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

Naturally, it is difficult to love others but God commands us to do so. Anyone with the God kind of love is empowered to do the impossible which is to love as Jesus Christ commanded. This requires discipline and the willingness to become more like Jesus. Let us consider some characteristics of love – Love is patient, kind, does not envy, does not boast, does not dishonour others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered and it keeps no record of wrongs.

These mentioned above are some of the characteristics of true love and is can used to assess the kind of expression of love we have for people. Does your love measure up to this kind of love? Also, love hates evil and clings to what is good. This kind of love does not hate sinners but their sins. Truly, we cannot achieve this except we love sacrificially.

God’s love is very important and is imperative we show it to our neighbours and people in our community because you may be the only God somebody sees.

Prayer Point: Oh God, heal my wounded, broken and sinful heart. Help me love others as you have commanded in Jesus name.
