Main text: Matthew 22:36-39 – Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? And he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second like unto it is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
1 John 4:8 – For his disciples were gone away into the city to buy food.From the above scripture, love is the baseline for every function or activity of man.
No wonder the bible said in Romans 13:10, that love is the fulfilment of the law. Christians who show the God kind of love to their neighbours are ordained for supernatural breakthrough. 1 Corinthians 2:9 says but as it is written, ‘Things which eye saw not, and ear heard not, And which entered not into the heart of man, Whatsoever things God prepared for them that love him’. David in the bible was a lover of God and was called a man after God’s own heart.
David’s love for God was demonstrated when he risked all to fight Goliath because he insulted God and the armies of the Lord. David said, ‘Who is this uncircumcised philistine that is harassing God’s people and blaspheming the name of our God’.If we love God, we will obey Him. The love of God and for God empowers us for delightsome and stress-free obedience. As it is written, For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous (1 John 5:3).
The love of God removes grief, strain and stress in obeying God. Abraham was an addicted lover of Go and at every instance, he obeyed God. His love and obedience earned him a friend of God. if we love God, we will also love our neighbours. You must love what God love and hate what He hates. God loves when brethren fellowship together and that is why He instructs us to abide in fellowship with brethren.
