AVOID SPIRITUAL HARLOTRY
Main text: Hosea 4:12 – My people consult their wooden idol, and their diviner’s wand informs them; For a spirit of harlotry has led them astray, And they have played the harlot, departing from their God.
James 1:23 – or if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.
Spiritual harlotry is when a believer prostitutes himself with the false religion of serving other gods or with self gratification of the Old Man (who he was before salvation, always yielding to the whims of the flesh).
Spiritual harlotry was a norm for the Israelites, after God had brought them out of Egypt and they had seen the mighty works of God in their midst they were eager to get for themselves another God when Moses was still on mount Sinai getting the ten commandments, they molded a golden calf and said that was the god that brought them out of Egypt. They didn’t waste time to replace God. The enemy’s purpose, through the strategy of harlotry, is to draw God’s people away from faithful relationship with God.
The enemy uses the enticements of the world to activate the lust of the flesh, of the eyes, and pride of life. The heart then turns to respond to the seduction. Thus one departs from God and plays the harlot. Always look unto Jesus, fix your heart and all on him. Let him be your priority at all times as anything you put before God is an idol.
While serving God you can’t be in-between trying to live a righteous and holy life and conforming to the things of the world. What you behold and follow is who your master is. It’s not enough to just read but also practice as James 1:23 says a person that hears the word and doesn’t obey is like one who beholds his face in a mirror and immediately he leaves forgets what he saw. Be careful as yielding to spiritual harlotry leads to destruction.
ONLY THE SPIRIT OF GOD IN YOU CAN KEEP YOU FROM SPIRITUAL HARLOTRY.
Prayer: Lord, please help me to have my mind stayed on you always and deliver me from any form of spiritual harlotry in Jesus name.
