MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2
A STONE FOR YOUR GOLIATH
Main text: 1 Samuel 17:40 – Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.
2 Corinthians 10:4 – The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds
David and Goliath story is one, Christians and none Christians reckon with, of how a shepherd boy unskilled in battle and can’t even wear the combat uniform killed a giant that was a warrior from youth and harassed Gods people.
Realistically, it is senseless that David went to battle with five smooth stones, a sling and his Shepherd’s stick. Goliath was bemused and had to ask if he was a dog that David brought a stick but David was not discouraged he understood it wasn’t about what he went to battle with but who had his back, who his ally was. He said you come to me with a sword, spear and javelin but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heavens armies.
David knew his weapon of warfare was not carnal like that of Goliath. He knew it wasn’t about what he took to battle but he was sure of victory because he didn’t forget how God saved him from the lion and bear while tending to his father’s flock. We are quick to forget what God has done in the past and easily get discouraged when confronted with new adversaries.
Though David was not skilled in using sword he had other skills else he would not have killed the lion and the bear. David did something; he didn’t go empty handed or unprepared. What did you do to conquer past adversaries? Speaking the word? Prayer? Praise? Faith? Commitment? Obedience? Service?.
Whatever it was God that did it then and will help you overcome now just be ready to rejoice because you have already won.
STOP TALKING ABOUT HOW BIG THAT GIANT IS BUT RATHER TALK ABOUT HOW BIG YOUR GOD IS BECAUSE IT BUILDS FAITH
