SHOW COMPASSION

MAIN TEXT: Ephesians 4:2-3
“With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forebearing one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace.”

Colossians 3:12
“Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering.”

Compassion is a concrete expression of mercy and love. It means to have pity or to feel concern out of sympathy for someone. Compassion is part of God’s core nature and it defines that character in Him by which He faithfully keeps as shown in the book of Matthew 15:32 “….I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.”

Compassionate connotes loving-kindness, goodness, grace, favour, mercy, steadfast love, forgiving one another and finding a way to help even the offender out of his or her sorry situation. God designed compassion to be an essential part of the Christian community because, it reveals the state of the heart. In response to past, present and future gifts of God’s mercy and compassion we also must be channels of divine mercy and compassion both within the Church and out there in the World (Jude 1:21-22).

God, even though He is God, brought Himself low for the purpose of extending His mercy and compassion to all sinners, irrespective of how much evil they had done.

LIVE A LIFE OF KINDNESS

Prayer: Holy Spirit, may the grace and spirit of compassion flow richly through me. Let divine mercy abound in me in Jesus name, Amen
