DON’T BE QUARRELSOME

MAIN TEXT: 2 TIMOTHY 2:24 ‘’And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel: instead he must be kind to everyone, able to teach; not resentful’’.

Proverbs 20:3 ‘’It is to a man’s honor to avoid strife but every fool is quick to quarrel

To be quarrelsome means you like to pick on other people to make yourself feel good. Perhaps you grew up in a place where it was a pattern, so you think it is normal, but it is certainly not Christ-like. Some people only feel good about themselves when they are attacking the validity of somebody else’s opinions and beliefs and maneuvering that person into defending their positions.

The goal of a quarrelsome person is not to add value to other people’s lives by showing them the errors of their ways; it is purely to make them lose their sense of self-worth.
When Paul was writing to Timothy, he sounded it to timothy as a warning – ‘’…. the Lord’s servant must not quarrel….’’ A quarrelsome person attracts reproach to himself and reduces his power to witness to other people about Christ. This is the reason we are warned to avoid quarrelling. It makes your testimony invalid. Does that mean you should not stand up for what you believe?

No, it means you must learn to disagree without being disagreeable! When you are mean-spirited, you do more harm than good.
Quarrels can lead to spiritual bankruptcy. You must not always be quick to speak up your opinion over a matter. Occasionally it is better to let others do the talking and while they are at it, you can pick one or two things to add to what you know.

A QUARRELSOME PERSON CREATES PROBLEMS FOR OTHERS, AVOID IT

Prayer: My father, my God, I receive the power to always bear with other people and walk peaceably towards them. Amen.
